“Warm October”

Why did you choose these 10 songs? Similar to a stout, these songs are suited best when saying goodbye to Fall. They are tunes that make me feel warm, vibrant, and grateful to live near the cold coastline of the Pacific Ocean. Strings forward, drums in the back, a couple of good ole nostalgic bangers, and a few new ones to round it out.

Enjoy the dusk of Fall, my friends.

“bounce along”

Why did you choose these 10 songs? I took the idea of “motion” and picked songs that had similar rhythms and energies. They’re songs that make me kind of bounce in the same way!

“afternoon coffee pt. 3”

Why did you choose these 10 songs? Over the last six months, these 10 songs have consistently lifted my spirits, helped me reconnect with my body, and left me feeling more inspired each time. I hope they have the same effect on anyone who listens. I love how the diverse genres blend together, each complementing the next with its unique feel – from soft vocals and slow sax solos to thoughtful rap beats.

Creative Inspiration: I'm inspired by the creative work of Isabel Paige, specifically her talent as a director and editor in her short films and documentaries.

“Sunlight of the Century”

“Sunlight of the Century consists of the leftover songs, songs that I still love but didn't make the cut for the studio album. In some ways, they are more representative of the original songwriting exercise because they're rough around the edges, and you can hear the outside world leaking into the recordings.”

“saudade”

Why did you choose these 10 songs?

I intentionally kicked this playlist off with "Damn" by Nat Lefkoff, one of my favorite songs of all time, because to me, it is the definition of saudade, which is the Portuguese word for nostalgia or, rather more specifically, a longing for a moment in time in which you know you can never return to. It's not often a song brings out this emotion in me, but when one does, that is art, that is life, that is the purpose and meaning of it all. Each song thereafter tells a story of nostalgia, pain, life, love, loss. These songs are felt, not heard. I find myself lost in each and every one of them, in the best way. They all take you somewhere, and that's the beauty of music and why I love it so much. Great music isn't just heard, it's felt. These ten songs were specifically chosen because I fully & wholeheartedly feel them, deeply in my soul.

  • Nat Lefkoff and Holden of Del Water Gap, two insanely talented lyricists

  • Carly Bogie, Fuegostine, and Matthew Meyer, fellow music curators, who are all brilliant creators & inspirations

“Artists I think are doing cool things :)”

Why did you choose these 10 songs? These songs represent artists in my recent rotation who sonically feel very fresh and inspiring. With so much music being released every day, I think it's important to give flowers to the artists who continue to show originality.  Enjoy.

Pilot Release #1

“From Friends and lovers”

I made this because… when we read, we listen to music. When we mosey around museums, we listen to music. When we cook, when we draw, when we paint, we listen to music. PILOT is no different. With each release of PILOT, 10 songs will be included, selected by musicians, guest curators, and friends of the magazine. This first list was put together by Alex and Michael - it includes musicians that inspire us, musicians we know personally, and songs that deserve much more love. Enjoy.
