Lyrics for My DOg Jack
“Mendocino Dream”
I made this because… At the risk of sounding cliché, I love writing songs.
My drawing skills never progressed beyond a kindergarten level (my coloring development stalled for a few months after I fell off the monkey bars). Thus, making music became my form of doodling. Still, I do wish I could draw though.
Once in a while, these musical doodles feel half-decent and become the bones of a song, as well as a good excuse to write a poem (lyrics).
It’s a lovely feeling: creating characters, weaving in motifs, and adding color and context to these musical doodles I can’t get out of my head. Maybe they mean something. But even if they don’t, they are still important.
This is one of the first times I’ve shared lyrics as a standalone poem.
The song is called Mendocino Dream and will be released this spring.
I hope you enjoy the story as much as I enjoyed writing it.
All the best,
Scott

Landlord asked the Crown
To say, I’m wrong.
As the gambling commission
Hummed along To a wedding song.
The morning greets us with,
A funny smile.
As we were lying with the critters Who haven’t paid
Rent for a while.
And guess who flew back home
Feeling down.
A West Coast fan who made plans
When they were off the ground.
Wherever I will go,
You’ll be around
A phantom of my freedom a vision
That’s tumbling down
And if you’re anxious,
If you’re feeling weak.
Come up to the surface,
I’m down on my knees.
One more night in Brooklyn,
While Paris sleeps.
Meet me in Berlin and we’ll find
That Mendocino Dream
